Feels like a spiral staircase ~ KEEP ON CLIMBING! ~

Here you are, in your first week of classes  Whew, it is overwhelming! You feel like you are climbing a spiral staircase that never ends. This is especially true during this first week of classes. Did you get the right books? Do you know your classes? What is your professor going to be like? Do you have any assignments due the first week? If you are doing online classes, have you figured out the system? Are you having any glitches? We you able to download everything you need? Did your books come in yet? OH NO! I’M SOOO OVERWHELMED! I’M SPINNING IN CIRCLES! SAVE ME FROM THIS CRAZINESS! 🙂

You don’t need saved, you just need to breathe. Inhale, hold it, Exhale. Do it a couple more times. There you go. Much better. Ok, now, take it one step at a time. Let’s say you haven’t received your books yet. No problem. Most Universities offer three weeks of chapters that you can print out. If not, you can copy the pages from a classmate. You received prior to the quarter/semester your class schedule. Start a little early and head out to the University and find them ahead of time. If you are taking the classes online, then it’s easy. They are already listed for you on the Blackboard. As far as what your professor is going to be like, that may take a couple of weeks to get a good feel for that. Ask other students who may have had him/her before and see what they say. Remember however, that whatever they say, it is their opinion. Do not prejudge. keep an open mind. You should have received a copy of your Syllabus, therefore you should know if you have any assignments due. Do not wait until the last-minute to do them. That will frustrate you even more. If you are taking online classes and you are having problems. Contact Tech Support IMMEDIATLEY.  They get inundated with calls and it is no excuse not to get your work done. If you have to go the a public library and use their computers until the issue is resolved.

It feels like a spiral staircase when you stress instead of rationally thinking about it. You cannot procrastinate. You have to be your best advocate. Do not be nasty with the staff or fellow students. That will definitely not earn you any points. Seriously. Be a professional and find ways to make it work for you. Do not make excuses and saying I can’t do my work this week because of this that or another. You are a college student. You have to take responsibility for your own education and assignments.  Buy yourself a date book where you keep all the information you need such as; dates assignments are due, professor information, tech support and so on. Stay organized. It will save you in the long run.

You will reach the top of the staircase and like Rocky you will be able to jump up and down, scream and raise your fist because YOU DID IT! Keep Climbing  my friend and I will see you at the top!

Peace

What kind of future are you building? ~Weak or Strong!

What kind of future are you building? ~Weak or Strong!.

Some Days I Just Need a ~ HUG!

Some Days I Just Need a ~ HUG!.

Thought for today – LOOKING OUTSIDE, LOOKING WITHIN.

Just a thought for today. contemplate it, and let’s discuss it!

College makes you – COME ALIVE!

College makes you – COME ALIVE!.

College makes you – COME ALIVE!

Think about those words. When we do things that are good for us and others, we literally COME ALIVE. Reflect for a moment on the day you were accepted to college, can you remember the feelings? Yes, some of them were fear, but honestly, there was a great deal of excitement. How man times did you day “I’m a college student!” I know I did hundreds of times. I still do, even after (4) years and two degrees. It is just even more incredible to say “I’m a college graduate!”

COME ALIVE. allow yourself to be fulfilled. I can hear you now “It’s hard to come alive with all this studying, exams, work and family.” REALLY????? Why would you deny yourself the good stuff? No matter what, you are doing what others refuse to do. You are bettering yourself. Improving you and your family’s future. Giving yourself more opportunities.  Stop the self-pity. Stop trying ti pour yourself another glass of failure. Look at all of this as the GLASS HALF FULL instead of the GLASS HALF EMPTY!

As we get older we start to realize our mortality and we realize it is time to make a move. Before you know it the four years will be over and you will have that PRECIOUS DEGREE!  I cannot reiterate enough that feeling you are going to experience. I remember Strayer’s President Dr. Stollards’ words at the end of commencement when she said, “TURN YOUR TASSLES AS YOU ARE NOW A GRADUATE OF STRAYER UNIVERSITY!”  I still get the goose bumps when I think about those words or hear the words “Kathleen Gerber, Bachelor’s of Science, Magna Cum Laude.” You can feel those goose bumps too. Instead of thinking “Oh I wish I would have.” There’s no room here for woulda, coulda, shoulda.

Create your bucket list for life and GO FOR IT! You only live once. Last year, I allowed myself to experience something I have wanted to do my whole life. Skydive. I went with my son and a great friend. Oh yes, I was petrified until the plane was actually flying towards our destination of 13,500 ft. I had a sense of calm because I had made the decision and did not wimp out. IT WAS INCREDIBLE! I loved every single second of it and now I am addicted. The point I am trying to make here is you do not know what you are missing out on if you only allow things to be a dream or a fantasy or wishful thinking.  For me, I don’t want to die with regrets. I don’t want to die with “if only.”

Pump yourself up! Be positive! Yell and Scream like a cheerleader would!

Don’t allow yourself to get stuck in a rut or complacent. This is it! 🙂 🙂 🙂

HAVE FUN!

Failure only happens when YOU GIVE UP!

I live by this quote. This is another one of those sticky notes all around my house, car and office. We all have those times when we just want to say “That’s it, I can’t take anymore, I’m done!” I am going to be honest, this quote literally frightens me.  I give up and my dream coming true was just around the corner and I wimped out. I’m just not willing to take that chance. Nope, No way!!

Remember one thing. Our dreams may not happen all at one time. Our successes may come bits at a time, until it all just comes together. Then we look back with what I like to call the “Lightbulb Effect.”  Oh yea, I got it now. Wouldn’t foresight or a crystal ball be AWESOME! 🙂 .

Keep holding on, your dream will come to fruition. If you give up, THEY NEVER WILL.

GRADUATION WILL HAPPEN!  YOU’RE DREAMS WILL HAPPEN!

Hold on and ENJOY THE JOURNEY!
